I heard a song once that said “we should start our lives in the middle of the jungle, be surprised, keep hungry, feel alive, learn how to lose all of your money”, and for some reason this always sticked with me, in a way that made me smile and nod to myself, like it made some cord inside me sing. So I started asking why?!

Maybe because in this life we are born surrounded by metal and chaos, more concerned about buying this or that, or earning more so we can buy more…

Is really that what we should go after?

In a way we have lost contact with the world, ourselves, with nature and its people. We have no time to think because we are aways so busy and over stimulated, we complain all the time about work, every little problem feels like the end of the world, we became accustom with the idea that adult life is like this, lot’s of responsibilities to deal with and always less time to cultivate what our inner self needs the most.

I felt exactly like this a bit more than a year ago, frustrated, easily annoyed, completely burned out, board out of my mind and depressed. From the outside you might have seen me having the career and stability I always wanted and so many people look for, I was in a relationship with a man that adores me living together in London, so why was I not happy? Which side of my life needed to be adjusted?

It took time to let go of the life I always thought I wanted!

Because we convince ourselves that having no plan or not working towards some massive career achievements means that we are failing in life. Well, we had all of that before and let me tell you that it only made us totally miserable, creating insecurities in our relationship and within ourselves.

And so we started thinking about the idea of a “simpler” life, fuller in emotions and experiences, the idea of waking up surrounded by nature, to be excited for each sunset like it was the first one. More we thought about it and more it sounded perfect.

I can hardly describe in words how incredible the feeling of leaving all of that behind was for us, how liberating! The thrill and freedom we felt being in charge of every actions instead of being carried around purposeless. We began to be more in tune with our feelings, to not let problems bother us, to laugh during crises to have expectation but to understand that things go as they go and we needed to accept that.

What I mean with all of this is to listen to your body more than your head sometimes, don’t be afraid to change your life and to start from scratch, because in reality we never really do. Everything you have done and lived is part of who you are, and it will help you in your next chapter.

Tune out everyone around you that tries to convince you to “not risk it”, to follow the standard path because the unbeaten one is too unpredictable. You have an obligation towards yourself to create the kind of life you are truly happy with!

Our goal should be finding happiness and peace, not in death, but in life.
